Opening the doors to change

Cologne, October 2, 2019 – The "Innovation Transfer Operations System" (ITOS) is an association of well-known manufacturing companies that meets regularly at one of its members’ location. This year's expert forum was dedicated to the topic "Industry 4.0": digital transformation meets operations system. What will the office (smart office), building (smart building) and mobility (smart city) of the future look like? These were the key questions at the start of the 20th ITOS meeting on 17 September 2019.

At RheinEnergie AG in Cologne, which opened its doors to the committee, the participants gained an insight into the successful implementation of sustainable trends. RheinEnergie AG has been supplying around 2.5 million people, industry, trade and commerce in the Rhineland, Germany, with energy and drinking water for almost 150 years. The company is not only committed to climate protection and the people in Cologne and the region, but also to its more than 3,000 employees at the site. Achim Südmeier, board member for sales at RheinEnergie, reported in exciting lectures on the open office structure (multiple space) as well as the topics "digital transformation" and "smart grit", which have already been successfully implemented.

Dr. Schönheit + Partner (S + P) has also been working in "open space" and "creative space" for several years now - with success, as Dr. Martin Schönheit, Managing Director of S + P, showed the participants in the modern offices on site. With his speech "leadership and agility in a digital environment", he sensitized participants to the advantages of an agile organization and provided thought-provoking impulse regarding the influences of digitalization on employee leadership.

After the concluding ITOS committee meeting, in which the impressions, insights and impulses of the two days were condensed, all participants agreed: "You feel that you are not only leading your team professionally in the “open space”, but that all participants know the values of the company and are allowed to implement them on their own responsibility", says Norbert Peer, Airbus Helicopters. The open and creative office structure at S + P offers a great working atmosphere, shows exemplary discipline and is a good example of a well-managed agile organization, summarize the committee members.
